As I understand it, it's supposed to be directly after the events of Casino Royale. Of course, the name makes no sense to me other than trying to sound cool.

The title is from one of Ian Fleming's short stories in "For Your Eyes Only", though the movie has nothing to do with that story. "Quantum" can be substituted with "measure" in the context of this film, as in: Bond needs a "measure of solace" to put his mind at ease over Vesper's death.

That's the way I understand it, anyways.

So why the fuck didn't they just call it "Measure of Solace"?

I liked "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell on the last one, but I'm a bit biased admittedly: I love Soundgarden.

Not a bad one. Not the best, but by no means the worst.

Actually I love the title, because it's the one single correct use of the word Quantum I have ever seen in a movie!

In real physics, a quantum is the smallest possible amount of something. So to say a Quantum of Solace is to say that you are getting not just a Measure of Solace, but the smallest possible measure of solace. My read on it is that Bond is getting revenge for what happened to Vespa... but that it gives him only the tiniest bit of solace to do so.

I think it's a great title.
Give a man a fire, and you keep him warm for a day. SET a man on fire, and you will keep him warm for the rest of his life...

I thought it referred to such a description for energy specifically, as in "A photon is a quantum of visible light."
