That was a made-for-TV movie, Knight Rider 2000. It was on the first season DVD boxed set.

And KITT actually had a laser in a number of episodes, too. Most notably against KARR and Goliath.

Yeah. They had President Dan Quayle, IIRC. Thank Primus that didn't happen!

Yeah, although they did replace gas with some sort of algae synthesis. Hmm, I might wanna watch that movie again. Wasn't half-bad...

No, that was Knight Rider 2000. The car looked more like a Pontiac Banshee, but yeah, I remember that one too. It was a made-for-TV movie, based in Seattle, I think. Guns were outlawed and the police had special "ultrasound" pistols that fired shockwaves to incapacitate the subject. I thought it was kinda cheesy.

Gah, the original Kitt was tough, but he wasn't indestructable.

And I don't think he was capable of travelling underwater (although in one very silly episode he did drive on it)

Yes, it is possible. And has been done too.
