The Doomsday Machine
Re: The Doomsday Machine
Good question.
But, could the DM survive partially digitized?

No trees were killed in transmission of this message. However, some electrons were mildly inconvenienced.
Re: The Doomsday Machine
It's a machine, not alive, so I'd guess as long as none of it's critical components were digitized, I don't see why not.

Re: The Doomsday Machine
Unfortunatly, we don't know what are critical components for the DM... man this battle idea has a lot of unknowns.

Re: The Doomsday Machine
Unfortunately true. Ohh....I had a cool section 31 idea. They are trying to re-activate the DM. They could do alot of damage if they needed to in a hurry.

Which V'ger are we using? the 2AU one or the 82AU one?
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Because the 184 million mile version would be so much weaker than the 7.5 billion mile version as to make any difference?Teaos wrote:Which V'ger are we using? the 2AU one or the 82AU one?
Either way, I agree with Graham's assessment that V'Ger is one of the most incredibly powerful vessels ever featured in sci-fi.
Borg schmorg.
A fleet of Doomsday Machines would be appropriate for a real fight.

V'ger wins against anything ever seen.

Re: The Doomsday Machine
V'ger could easily digitise the DM. It's digitised whole galaxies before, IIRC, so it should have come across neutronium before.
As for what happened to the DM, I imagine that Starfleet took it away to some secret facility to mine the neutronium.

I wonder would a GSV be able to stand up to it, or would it count as another Excession?V'ger wins against anything ever seen.

Re: The Doomsday Machine
Hmmm... good question. Would being digitized by V'ger count as Subliming? And would a GSV's connection to ulterior and inferior subspace confer some protection?
Ummm... getting a bit close to a "vs." discussion, methinks.

And if not, how would it measure up to the Excession itself?Rochey wrote:I wonder would a GSV be able to stand up to it, or would it count as another Excession?
Mikey's right though - we're probably a bit too close to versus territory.

Or would the GSV's effectors be able to do anything to V'ger?Hmmm... good question. Would being digitized by V'ger count as Subliming? And would a GSV's connection to ulterior and inferior subspace confer some protection?
Well, that said, you're probably right that this is veering a tad too close to VS territory.

General Systems Vehicle, from Iain M. Banks' Culture series. Another series I really need to read. They'd better track down my library's roof soon. I need more books.
