Don't run. It's no use. Just shoot back. Wait pointless as well. I forfeit.

I will bring no threats against you, for I deem you comments to be out of ignorance rather than malice. Just remember: May the Emperor have mercy on you... because we won't.

TMP... what a classic. You get many Trek constants from there:
- The infamous one-piece uniform
- The Jerry Goldsmith theme
- The classic Constitution refit

Yeah, I think it's underrated. Many people think Sci-Fi is all about action (think Star Wars or Wrath of Khan). Well, TMP was a philosophical quest into what defines "human" or "alien". Our curiosity for things, how it may be our own downfall... all of that and much deeper things are explored.

Definitely a good movie, but not exactly the best of Trek.

I've nothing against non-action sci-fi. I just felt TMP was lacking.

Its the fact that back in the day they were showing off all there cool new special effects, now that those special effects are so increadably dated the whole thing is just boring.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I think the ideas are more cliched than the SFX. I still enjoy the film, but I think the problem some folks have with it is the whole, "the incredibly powerful, destructive alien entity just needs a hug" idea.

Pretty much, yeah.
The whole twist about it turning out the be the Voyager Prove was pretty cool, though.

There were definite positives in that movie, and even the hackneyed theme was done well. All I'm saying is that even done well, it's a theme that had been seen before.

This is all probably due in part to TMP being developed as an alternative to ST:Phase Two rather than being developed in a vacuum.

Seconded. I was fine with the ideas behind it, but so much of it was sitting watching the state of the art graphics... not my thing. The score was beautiful though.
