I wonder how many Connie's are left in mothball........just curious.

I'm sure that they will likely have a clean out of the Mothballs once in a while. A Connie would be pretty incapable. I imagine the resources would have been reprocessed to pave the way for the newer combat ships.

There were definately some available to be reactivated as of the mid-2360s - one was lost at Wolf 359.

Yup, you can see its wreckage (IIRC) and it's clearly a Connie.

Like you said yourself: they were desperate for any ship that had a working gun.

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
True. And i doubt it could be as bad as an oberth. at least a Connie has a decent torpedo armament, Comparatively speaking, to the little science skiff.
Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
If you could upgrade her power systems and phasers, a Connie would still make a decent ship, at least in say, system defense or "police duties". I doubt many pirates could outgun her.

And I'll bet that her warp core won't blow up every other week like a GCS warp core would

Re: Ideas for new classes of starships
I've been off ditl for about 2 days and it gets this off topic, GAH any new ideas I've got one for klingons:
K'ping class
type: warship
desc: like the new romulan ship (I forgot the name) But 7 torpedo launchers(3 on each wing(1in back, 2 in front) and 1 at the bridge area), 4 disruptors, bulkier wings + engine area, able to fire while cloaked.
