Re: So how screwed are we?
In fairness to the republicans many of them were elected due to the public backlash against obamacare. If your campaign promise is t repeal a law, I see nothing hypocritical in their actions.

Re: Oh my god why.......
It's a shame I wasn't there. I wouldn't beaten the shit out of him with one hand while saluting the American flag with the other. Remember 9/11? When a bunch of Muslim crazies tried to hijack some planes with Americans onboard? While the French passengers were trying to surrender the Americans kille...

Re: State of the Union Address
Well it is a fact that the disparity of income increased dramatically in the last 40 or so years in the US, with all the negative effects this has on an economy. So.....how would you counter that without raising minimum wages? (Assuming one is opposed to the rich getting richer.) Why is income disp...

Re: State of the Union Address
A problem arises when the government sets the minimum wage above the value that a worker brings to the company. If a low skilled worker can only produce $8/ hour of value for his employer, Obama would have the employer either engage in $1/ hour of charity or replace him with someone more skilled. Fo...

Re: Shooting at small town elementry school in Conneticut
Hello everyone, I've only skimmed this thread, so please forgive me if I'm reiterating the spirit of someone else's post regarding gun control. The matter at hand is whether or not the liberty to own guns is worth the price we pay in lost lives. To the families of those who've died, I imagine the an...

Re: Cost of food in London
I appreciate the info Harry, I heard that food in the UK is quite a bit more expensive than in the U.S, but these prices (while higher than what I find where I live) are pretty comparable to NYC, for example.

Cost of food in London
Since there are many Britons here... I'm thinking about taking a 1 week vacation in London sometime in January. I was wondering if anyone knows the approximate price of the following: A fastfood meal for two (McDonalds or something similar) Indian or Chinese takeout for two Fish & Chips for two ...

Re: The Box - what would you do?
It's interesting how few people would take the money. Is pressing the button for a million dollars any different from buying a coffee? The money you spend on a coffee could keep some random African alive (if donated to an effective charity) for another couple of days. So shouldn't we all forgo coffe...

Connecticut has a pretty good handle on this issue:

I don't think that it costs the taxpayers an outrageous sum of money either.

Re: Fed ground combat again
I'll go ahead and clarify: Rochey and Seafort have given numerous reasons, backed by fact and reality, (as well as in-universe examples) of why the 'Trek universe should and could use more capable ground forces. You've postulated that they don't need them any more, but haven't refuted any of their ...
