Re: Info on the USS Kelvin
Kelvin [was] my favorite ship in the whole movie. Not saying to terribly much, but it really fit in well. I think the ....okay, let's face it...HUGE nacelle works well for a ship with just one. However, we see some other ships later with two or more of those big honkers bolted on. THOSE do not score...

Re: E-nil firing phasers
Yeah and as much as I don't like the fact vulcan gets nuked to high heaven I must say I'm looking forward to seeing the SFX with it. I was going to hold off, but since we're in a spoiling mood  : From the film, it appears that phaser banks are now pairs of turrets, a bit more advanced looking ...

Re: Star Trek XII Villains
I'm a fan of the Section 31 ideas! (Haven't been around for a while, Rochey, but nice to see you're still posting such great material :) ). I certainly like the idea of S31 taking over the government secretly and getting Starfleet onto a military footing. - maybe the already have been, seeing as we ...

Re: Seen it! SPOILERS IN HERE!!!!
I did enjoy myself at the movie. There were some things that I liked, some things I disliked. Good: I agree that the characters were handled VERY well. Especially Bones. Effects were awesome (as were the aliens and creatures - a nice improvement for the series), and the dialog moments were pretty we...

Re: What's the latest in people's lives?
No way, I ain't no violinist. I am. Not a very good one, and still a student, but I do play. In fact I have a Star Trek songbook for violin. :Nerd: Sweet. Love the Chaconne! Best avatar EVER! (and it helps summon music geeks from everywhere) Who published the Trek songbook? Best score, Horner's for...

Schizo-Hal:
Is your avatar the picture the Bach Chaconne? SWEET! I can only muddle through it. Beautiful handwriting...
Anyway, back to school for me...My students will have to learn the open strings before we can try Bach...

About ship locations: I don't think that it makes a lot of sense to put the most advanced ships too far from the core. That's just me. I'm cautious. It might work just dandy if your Enterprise is at the right place at the right time (usually so    ), but if they're off bothering the B...

Put it another way. The RMS Queen Mary carried upwards of 15,000 troops at a time overseas during World War II. She is (roughly) 311m x 36m x 55m. How many Queen Marys would fit into that dreadnought? The dreadnought is calculated at 4,800 x 3,235 m x 1,393 m. Now it isn't anywhere as close to being...

I don't know about all this (haven't checked the numbers), but I would imagine that the most accurate explanation is somewhere in the middle. Remember, people in NYC don't cram about like Jem'Hadar, with or without equipment. Residents of a city have apartments/condos/houses, restaurants, and work p...

I would imagine that the most effective way that torpedoes would be handled tactically would be for them to operate at a reasonably similar closing velocity between the ship and the target. As the TM suggests, operating at very high speeds may well reduce the potential yield (especially since at ver...

:? How do we know? I don't think M/AM tech was ever fully explained in Trek. And the only cores we've seen are the ones to move massive starships around. Well, matter/antimatter reactions should work on the same principle as rocket technology of today. You have to get mass, and propel it backwards ...
