Re: Starbase Yorktown (mild spoiler)
But why build something like that on the edge of known space? If it was any form of hub (diplomatic or commercial or industrial) it should be either near as many known nations or as many trade routes or as many raw materials producing sites as possible and its vicinity should be bustling with ships ...

Re: The USS Franklin
Probably it was the first ship capable of Warp 4 predating the NX-01. The design sure looks like it was older And after the foundation of the Federation it received an engine upgrade, transporter system, a motorcycle (which was actually my personal YATI, as the bike has only been put there for Kirks...

Re: STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS
You mean leaving technology behind, that represents your total travelling advantage, at the mercy of a timed or remote detonator is no good reason for you? Sorry. Then there are no good reasons for you - and never will be, no matter the reason :P In a world where a weapon the size of a pack of ciga...

Re: Into Darkness - the influences (SPOLIERS)
I would also add, that Marcus is like Cartwright from ST6. Also by giving in to Khan demands they disabled his ship in ST2 and STID (tech-data in ST2, that contained the command codes to bring down the Reliant shields; the torpedoes in STID, that were set to blow). Also we have Super-torpedoes in ST...

Re: STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS
Any reason you can't use one of those transporters to transport another transporter to the destination? Yep. Just finish reading, before you start to quote :P I meant a GOOD reason :) You mean leaving technology behind, that represents your total travelling advantage, at the mercy of a timed or rem...

Re: STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS
I dunno, it just seems like a horribly stupid thing to do. Essentially trusting to luck to take care of things for you, with nothing to gain and a lot to lose. It really felt like it needed something in there to take care of this... a reaction by Marcus to show that he didn't know, or to show that ...

Re: STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS
See, this is the thing that's dumb. What's the purpose of killing them all at the same time? What's the upside of killing Khan by basically shooting his own people at him strapped to bombs? Meanwhile, what's the downside? Well, there's a good chance that Kirk's crew will discover the sleepers and h...

Re: STID review/discussion for those who've seen it SPOILERS
Khan tried to smuggle his people away from Marcus custody by hiding them in the torps. Mercus discovered the plan and Khan was forced to flee. He assumend Marcus - as he didn't try to bring Khan back into their business - had killed all his people, and so he sought revenge. But Marcus didn't kill th...

Khans people are not killed when the torpedos detonate. They have been removed by McCoy prior to transport

Re: No Money Economy-unrealistic and stupid
Virtual money (which we call "credit," BTW) still presupposes a currency-based economy... which is stated to not be the case (at least within the UFP.) If it weren't so, I'd agree with you as far as exchanging it for something when necessary to trade outside the Federation, except for one...

Re: No Money Economy-unrealistic and stupid
While reading this thread I remembered Alien - Resurrection, where cash was used to make a transaction that was not completely legal. I don't know exactly how to work it out, but wouldn't it be wise to create an electric currency like "Federation credit", which can be used to acquire stuff...

Since we have just one figure, I stick to it as the average value until further analasys tells otherwise.
Äh... The dark side... you mean the dark sider of the moon or regions in eternal shadows?

Re: BluRay Extras
Source? A guess, an estimation, an assumption... take your pick You're basing an assumption about the entire crew quartering on the shots of a captain's quarters. This is obtusely fallacious. No. Ensign Garrowick also had a one-person quarter, despite being the lowest ranking officer. And if you re...

Re: BluRay Extras
No. Just TOS. I find a 300m ship, of which half is actually just reactors and engines with over 400 crew and single-person quarters (where there others?) too overcrowded to perform the range of missions shown. But who cares about that in the 70s ;) E-D was many times larger and just had 2,5 times th...
