Prime Factors - the first really good episode Voyager produced. Firstly it was nice to have the crew come across some pleasant aliens for a change, it was nice to see their openness, generosity and hospitality. OK sure they had a slightly seedy ulterior motive for wanting them there but hey, it's not like they secretly wanted to harvest their souls or suck out their brains or anything. Secondly it was great to have some of the secondary characters have a fairly large part in the episode (Seska and Carey). One of my favourite TNG episodes was Lower Decks from season 7 because it largely revolved around a group of nobodies rather than the main cast. I wish they did more of that, and at least here we get to see some other people for a change. Lastly I loved The scene at the end where Janeway was crewing out Torres and Tuvok. Takes me right back when I was sent to the headmasters office at school. |

These kinds of episodes are one of my favourites: just the crew, the ship and a nice, original idea that gives us something new and interesting to see. No aliens, no guest stars, no overly-silly treknobabble. Nice, simple and fun to watch. I liked watching everyone getting hopelessly lost and I especially liked how they basically give up and let what's going to happen, happen at the end instead of the usual case of finding some last-second miracle fix. |

I couldn't help but feel that this one was just poor. The thing that annoyed me most was at the end where the alien that's behind all the hallucinations appears and when asked why he did it he says "Because I can." Then when Janeway asks if it's just telepathy, or if technology is involved as well and the alien says "Does it matter?" And that's it. That's all the explanation we get. Lazy. |
