'Timeless' is an entertaining episode, with astounding special effects. Voyager crash-landing on the ice planet is a classic scene of the series. Seeing LaForge commanding a gorgeous-looking Galaxy-class starship is also a nice touch. Despite this, 'Timeless' is a bit slow at moments and the basic premise is nonsensical : we're supposed to believe Chakotay and Kim are ready to erase fifteen years of history just in order to save their small ship. And that they do so without ever expressing remorse or doubt. Pretty hard to believe in my opinion. |

Rarely does TNG get so intimate about describing its characters than in 'Family'. This episode has this DS9-ish feel to it that I just love. Picard's brother is such a surprisingly deep character, allowing us to see Picard in a very different light. The secondary plotlines, with Worf's parents and the Crushers, are also very refreshing. Many great moments punctuate this slow-paced episode : Picard's fight with his brother, Wesley watching his father's message, Worf bonding with his parents. I would add that I believe this episode should really be titled "Best of Both Worlds : Part III". You only get to the feel the sense of recovery that pervades the plot if you've just watched the action-packed Borg invasion before. The contrast works perfectly! |
