A story that is both curious and oddly tragic, but not entirely convincing. Whether one believes in 'the rebound' or not, Lieutenant de Sora is clearly supposed to be on the rebound, and it's clear from the start that this is the case. The only people who did not see it were Data and Jenna (and perhaps Riker), and we all knew it could not end well. As for the B-story, dark matter was a new idea then, and nobody really understood it when this was written. The anomaly behaviour was oddly similar to what happened in the Delphic Expanse (although that is probably co-incidence). However, the solution was a bit off. Really, Data should have been flying the shuttle. Not just because of his lightning reactions and the fact he might survive in a vacuum, it would have made more sense for the story, that's what pushed de Sora into her decision somehow. The end was, of course, inevitable, and Data's complete lack of emotional reaction somehow made it work. |
