"The Flight of the Phoenix" meets "The Galileo Seven", with occasional touches of Agatha Christie - an interesting premise at least. The writing is a bit dodgy in places, but the idea was not bad. The woman in the lift car seemed to be there purely as a plot driver, needlessly threatening Neelix and then just doing what the script demanded. Still, with slight references to "For the World is Hollow..." (synthetic asteroids) and "The Immunity Syndrome" (tri-ox compound), it is good to know that someone pays attention to TOS. These were much more subtle, not the slap-in-the-face references we often get. It was also interesting to see a space elevator and get a general idea of how it might be used. After the Dyson Sphere, that's good as well. Still, on dramatic merit, it's a fairly simple episode, although definitely watchable. |
