OK, good idea, but not quite followed through properly. I'm not sure if there was really anything wrong with it or simply I didn't like it. The story with Janeway and Chakotay on the planet was probably supposed to appeal to the more emotionally-minded, while the action on the ship was supposed to appeal to those who prefer action. As a result, the story could not make up its mind. Both sides seemed fairly convincing, but it somehow detracted from the story. I didn't spot this on first viewing, but they might have offered the Vidiians two defenceless victims by telling them where Janeway and Chakotay were. Still, full marks to whoever remembered that you can't beam through the shields, and a nice bit of in-series continuity by bringing in Denara Pel. I'm not sure how Tuvok will explain how he used up so much antimatter. Finally, if you want to catch an insect, a modified bedsheet or an old yoghurt pot will do the job fine, so there was no need to give up when all the traps broke. |
