"All the evidence points to Jack the Ripper." 1968 contender for the Silliest Line in Trek award. What did we have here? A series of events clearly intended to make certain people (but not us, the viewers) believe that dependable old Scotty was a murderer. Well, what the Argelians believe is important here, I suppose. Still, when we get back to the ship and the computer-aided trial, Kirk and Spock build up an incredible hypothesis, which Jaris buys into for some reason, so "Red Jack" throws away its biggest advantage and just becomes another thing trying to kill everyone that gets defeated easily. Overall, not good at all. |
