A true classic, often copied, but never equalled. The best moment of the lot has to be where Kirk refuses to kill the Gorn. No matter what else happens, that's the best moment, because it sums up exactly who Kirk is. He's a good guy, who doesn't kill without a good reason. What's more, at the time neither of them have technology to hide behind, which they did earlier on (and Kirk won by ingenuity). The Metrons produced a great set-up, leaving most of the main cast at the same level as the audience. It would be repeated several times, but was new here. So, we had a great action episode, and a serious point to think on, not to mention a number of unanswered questions. Would the Enterprise have destroyed the Gorn ship without intervention? Would it have escalated? Who knows? What a wonderful episode. |
