As usual, I'm reviewing both parts together. Rather a curious offering. We start off with another curious situation with the main characters still very much in-character (apart from Tuvok, perhaps) but in a different situation. One of those usual 'what's going on?' situations. We find out fairly quickly, and the story develops well with the action gradually winding up. The Doctor's 'ECH Mode' gets another outing, and he does fairly well, despite the ship almost falling apart around him. We also had some decent interplay between the characters on the planet, mostly working very well as versions of themselves. The idea of this memory-wiping as a form of impressment makes some sense, and I can see a small group of influential people making it work. It's also good to see different attitudes among a species, hostile, friendly, neutral, passive, active and so on. Good marks for continuity, by the way. The writers remembered that Chakotay is a vegetarian and that you can't beam through the shields. Verdict, a decent episode. |
