We seem to be back on track this time. A good episode, with some genuine Star Trek ideals coming through, cooperation and interdependency always wins out over brute force. It wasn't entirely new, we saw a starless void in "Night" and had power shortages in "Demon", but this pulls it together and comes up with a decent story. The dogmatic Janeway, who sticks to her principles no matter what, seems to be back. She sometimes agonises over stranding her crew, but still rejects a crucial component because it had been stolen. Fantome and his people, with their strange musical language, were curious. They can't be from the Void itself (there's no home planet) but must have lived there for a long time. The various other aliens seemed to be filling fairly basic roles, and provided a procession of established species. Anyway, they kept the tension going well, and it all worked out OK. Not bad at all. |
