An interesting episode, this. Firstly, it's a good chance for Jonathan Frakes to show off his acting talents, in the contrasts between the two Rikers. He handles it very well, especially their reaction, the way they take an instant dislike to one another. You know that they're really having a go at themselves. The differences are fairly subtle, which points to good writing as well as good acting. All through the episode, it seemed as though they were going to kill off one of the two, but they did not, and that was definitely the right decision. Bringing Tom Riker back later in DS9 was a good move as well, and it is a pity we did not see him again afterwards. |
