I used to think this was a bit of a dull episode. Now, it seems there are more nuances to the script than I thought. A bit of a Shakespeare overload at several points, but I suppose that was only to be expected within the theme. Still, there were some very good moments, the overloading phaser for a start. However, if I were a fugitive who had murdered 4,000 people, I think I would go into something a bit less public than acting (become a librarian perhaps). There's also the fact that Riley reappears as a communications officer (wearing gold, not red) when he used to be a navigator. The remastered effects were obvious in some places, but quite subtle in others (moving stars in the observation deck scene for instance). They didn't add a shot of the phaser appearing in space outside the ship, I would have been tempted to do so, and it is probably good that they are not going too far. Overall, quite nuanced in places and a lot more effective than I first thought. |
