Review : I have the 1977 edition. Christmas present from my sister that year. Never would have bought for myself. Glad she did. Actually it did stay mostly within canon of the orignal series save for some creative rendering of regulan blood worms and denebian slime devils along with tribbles in the "parasite" section. There is also a section dealing with those pesky alien plants. For sure the first-aide section is the most fun. Signs of a Vulcan Heart attack. How you deal with a dislocated antenna. And well if you ever need to mouth to mouth a vulcan or heimlich a tellarite an andorian or a gorn here's your book. The sections dealing with drugs, elements and all those nasty forms od radiation are cool but not as much fun. The section on medical eqipment should have got into the plans and arrangement of sickbay more. The graphics and printing are akin to the orignal Star Trek Technical manual also published by Ballintine books. It's one step above xerox printing but pretty good for the time. I understand the orignal is a bit rare and have seen it fetch a good price on e-bay
